Will you be watching fireworks?
It’s amazing how much we love fireworks. Whether we’re 3, 33 or 83, the sudden bursts of light and colors against a dark sky fill so many of us with awe. Enjoy them this weekend!
Don’t forget that while sparklers are magically fun, they’re still dangerous for little kids and should be handled only by adults or older children who know not to wave them in people’s faces. Keep a really good distance from any launch sites and delight in the surprise and beauty of the fireworks. Remember, babies can be frightened by the loud bangs that can hurt their ears (me, too!) While the big kids are outside, you may prefer to move your little ones indoors or to the car to watch from the windows.

Happy Father’s Day!
This is a wonderful tribute to a father who really is a meaningful dad to his children…Happy Father’s Day to those who take their responsibilities seriously and treat their children with love and respect.

“So often when people talk about attachment parenting they are thinking about the nurturing role that the mother plays. In our house, the mothering role has been an important one, but the fathering role has been critical too. We are partners in raising our kids, not a lead parent and a second fiddle. I value the role that my husband plays in our family and I know our children do too. I wish society would place more value on the role men can play as fathers.
So as a father’s day tribute, let me tell you what an attached dad looks like in our house:
- An attached dad knows that real men use ring slings (or wraps, mei tais, etc…).
- An attached dad parents his children to sleep by lying down with them and telling imaginative stories as they head off to dream land.
- An attached dad trusts that his children will wean when they are ready.
- An attached dad takes years off of his own career to be a stay at home dad when that is what works best for the family.
- An attached dad uses tickle fights and monster attacks to elicit shrieks of joy and physical play.
- An attached dad goes to his son at night and joins him in bed when he calls out and says “Daddy, cuddle me tight”.
- An attached dad puts his chores aside and spends the morning cuddling when his daughter says,“Daddy, I need you”.
- An attached dad understands that he doesn’t need to feed formula to be an involved dad.
- An attached dad washes the cloth diapers, over and over again, without being asked, so often that the attached mom can’t remember when she last washed them.
- An attached dad knows you can be firm and set limits without hitting or shaming your children.
- An attached dad loves sharing the bed for afternoon naps.
- An attached dad marvels at the personalities and abilities of his children and beams with pride.
- An attached dad sometimes needs a break and in turn understands that the attached mom sometimes needs one too.

Don’t give SimplyThick to premature babies….
Urgent message from MARCH OF DIMES!
“Don’t give SimplyThick to premature babies
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is urging parents not to give premature babies (babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy) the thickening product called SimplyThick. The product may cause a life-threatening health problem called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). With NEC, tissue in the intestines gets inflamed and dies.
Some premature babies have trouble swallowing. SimplyThick is a product that’s added to breastmilk or formula to make it thicker. Health providers recommended SimplyThick because it helped premature babies swallow their food and keep it down, without spitting it up. SimplyThick was available from distributors and local pharmacies.
The FDA learned that some babies got sick with NEC after they were sent home on an eating plan that included SimplyThick. Sadly, some of these babies died. NEC most often happens early in a premature baby’s life while she is still in the hospital, not after she’s sent home. NEC is very dangerous to a baby’s health.
At this time, the FDA isn’t sure what about SimplyThick is making babies sick. The organization is actively looking into the link between SimplyThick and these illnesses and deaths.
In the meantime, the FDA urges parents to parents to stop using the product immediately, even if their babies don’t appear to be sick.
Call your baby’s health care provider if she shows any of these signs:
• bloated stomach
• greenish-tinged vomiting
• bloody stools

Recall of table-top chairs…
“Recall of table-top chairs
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging consumers to stop using clip-on table-top chairs manufactured by phil&teds USA Inc. due to risk of serious injury due to multiple safety hazards. This caught my attention because we use one of these chairs for our grandchildren.
The “metoo” infant/toddler chair has a nylon fabric seat and a metal frame that clamps onto tables using two metal vise clamps. The upper part of each clamp rests on the table top and has either a rubber clamp pad on its underside or a rubber boot covering. Chairs affected by this warning do not have plastic spacers between the table clamps and the front horizontal metal bar. Chairs with plastic spacers between the table clamps and the front horizontal metal bar are under evaluation. The “metoo” chairs have been sold since May 2006 through phil&teds.com, Amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby, Target, ToysRUs and other retailers.
According to CPSC, the affected “metoo” chairs pose serious fall and amputation hazards to children. Children can suffer impact and head injuries when the chair detaches from the table and falls with them in it, and CPSC staff are aware of numerous incidents involving the chairs. Phil&teds has refused to agree to a national recall of their product that is acceptable to CPSC, and has offered a repair kit consisting of rubber boots to place on the upper clamp grips of the chairs. CPSC has not approved a repair kit for this product. For more information about the recall, click on this link.

50 Reasons for Breastfeeding Anytime!
NOTEWORTHY WEDNESDAY!
By now if you read this blog at all you know that I am a fan of “Phd in Parenting” and her blog. She is an ardent supporter of breastfeeding as am I.
To be truthful…I did not breastfeed due to medications that I was taking which were excreted in my breast milk. This was a few years back since I am now a grandmother. I missed the opportunity to breast feed way back then. But I did not miss being discriminated against.
Once when I asked to be seated in a restaurant in a large West Palm Beach department store, the hostess asked me if I intended to breast feed as it was not allowed in the dining room because it was offensive to the other patrons, who were mostly elderly. She then suggested I use the ladies room for privacy. What a relief came over her when I told her I was not intending to breast feed.
I never forgot this incident and it seems that not much has changed over the last 25 + years. How sad is that?

Once again, there has been an incident where someone went up to a breastfeeding mother and told her she had to cover up or leave. Once again, the media feels to need to create a breeding ground for ignorance by asking questions like “should there be any restrictions on breastfeeding in public?” The answer to that stupid question and yes…there are stupid questions, is simply NO. There should not be any restrictions. There is a myriad of reasons why women should and are able to breastfeed anytime, anywhere.Human Rights1. It is illegal to discriminate against or harass a woman because of her sex, including pregnancy and breastfeeding. or if it isn’t where you live, it should be!

Missoni in a Bugaboo!!!
I have written about strollers and I have posted about style but in this post the two are combined into a stroller fashion statement.
It is one beautiful stroller but the price tag is not for the faint of heart.
