How to Keep Baby’s Nursery Safe and Fashionable!

 Beautiful Baby

Baby nursery collections are abundant!

This makes decorating decisions difficult to say the least. Recently, I have been having fun looking for nursery items. Along the way I have come across some excellent companies one of which I would especially like to share with all of you.

Oliver B has a wonderful selection for baby cribs which are not only high on my fashion list but also adherent to nursery bedding safety recommendations.

Look at Oliver B’s philosophy on being innovative with their slat bumpers for baby’s crib. Crib safety is nothing to take lightly and these bumpers are safe and smart…don’t you think?

In addition, I love that this company is devoted to reducing SIDS with their products. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is still taking the lives of innocent babies and there are ways to stop this from happening.

INFANT CRIB BUMPERS: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT COULD SAVE YOUR INFANT’S LIFE

As a result of several studies conducted by well-known researchers, it has been shown that the standard crib bumper potentially traps carbon dioxide in an infant’s crib, thereby increasing the risk that an infant will die of SIDS. This can occur even when an infant’s air passageways are not covered or even close to the bumper. Unfortunately, this deadly scenario has not received the publicity that it deserves. As a result, mothers around the world are utilizing bumpers in their infants’ cribs under the misguided belief that they are protecting their infants. Rather, they are putting their infants in an extremely dangerous situation by failing to substantially reduce the risk that their infants will become a statistic of SIDS.   View the full article.

Little Fashion Gallery is a beautiful online store for kids’ fashion, furniture, toys and books.

They have also just launched their own great label for kids … it is European so I am including it here because I do have some readers who live across the pond.

I do not know if they ship to the U.S. but I have contacted them for more information and will share it just as soon I receive a reply.

I hope you have a look and let me know what you think.

A New Year … Bring it…

Welcome 2013…the last few weeks of 2012 have been hectic ones, complicated by the flu, which stopped at our house and has lingered right into the New Year!

Our holidays were wonderful, although we had to make a few schedule adjustments due to “influenza”. For our sake and the sake of our friends we stayed home most of the time  not attending a favorite Christmas Eve family party.

For many years, we have been welcomed at the home of dear friends on Christmas Eve. When we first began to attend the festivities, our own children were teenagers…we all enjoyed the little kids that surrounded us and their excitement poured out to every adult when Santa and Mrs. Santa arrived.

Over the past 16 + years, we have only missed one or two Christmas Eves with the family that adopted us long ago, here in Chicagoland. Sadly, this year was one of those years.

We are now grandparents and our friends are now grandparents and great grand parents…so it was with sorrow that we decided to stay home to keep the “flu” confined to ourselves.

I had even planned ahead and contacted “Borrow Baby Couture” for a special little girl’s dress for the Christmas Eve meeting with Santa.

I was so excited when the Chloe dress arrived and I quickly opened the box when I realized it was from “Borrow Baby“.

The dress was gorgeous, spectacular and sparkly …just what I wanted…even prettier than the picture on the “Borrow Baby Couture” web page. Truly fit for a “little princess”.

But, Christmas Eve arrived and our family was literally down for the count and the beautiful dress remained in the beautiful box. Christmas Day, we all stayed close to home enjoying the holiday spirit among ourselves and a few other close family members, who were brave enough to come into our home.

So, I have packed the pretty princess dress in its box, already to ship back to “Borrow Baby Couture”.

Admittedly, I am disappointed that the sparkly dress never made it far from its box…but Borrow Baby is still tops on my list when it comes to baby couture.

The convenience is unbeatable and the selection of dresses from infant to 4 years old is exquisite.

Kids Couture for the Holidays…Dress for Less!

“Borrow Baby Couture”

Another way to beat the consumer mentality of the Holiday Season is to visit

Borrow Baby Couture.

Borrowing and paying only a small percentage of the actual dress cost is much better than buying a Holiday dress that may be worn only once or twice by your child or grandchild.

For this weeks theme of “Christmas crazy consumerism” or “Holiday crazy consumerism”  Borrow Baby Couture ranks high on my list of ways to lessen my own consumer crazies. It allows me to shop at home with confidence that my granddaughter will have a lovely dress for the upcoming season of holiday events.

Here is my recent post about the Borrow Baby Couture services.

“What should my baby or little girl wear?”

I have just the suggestion, one which will help dress your child or grandchild stylishly for a fraction of the price.

Dawdling…

Last week, I treated myself to a morning in Glen Ellyn…a small Chicago suburb.

It was a beautiful Fall day and after a doctor’s appointment I took myself on a tour of downtown Glen Ellyn.

One of the treasures that I found was M and em’s, fun, fresh and fab, a store where you can shop for babies, children, and yourself. I had so much fun in this store!

There were special baby items, great shower gifts or just a little grandma gift for baby. Since we were planning a short trip with our granddaughter, I was on the lookout for some little “tchotchkes” for the plane flight. I could not have chosen a more appropriate place for my search. I was even tempted to buy a little something for myself but exercised restraint which I admit was not easy.

Baby gifts…

These are just too cute and too convenient for little ones still in diapers…Right?

Baby’s Halloween Mustache…

Not for everyone …but still cute!

Trick or Treat…

and for your favorite little “princess”…

Eco-friendly lunch boxes…love these!

Lunch anyone?…great eco-friendly lunch boxes for school!

Crayon roll…my favorite…

and my favorite the crayon roll, which holds crayons in separate pockets and rolls them up for easy access when traveling…keeps them from rolling away…yay! Holds a medium size box of crayons…comes with the crayons too.

M and em’s was a great find for me…I then headed to The Bookstore for some children’s books and the new J.K. Rowling book “Casual Vacancy” for me.

Conveniently, next to the bookstore was the String Theory Yarn Company, where I purchased some yarn and a pattern to amuse me on the plane when and if I had any time.

Then I walked back to my car…stashed my bags and joined an older woman at her table outside at Starbucks where I enjoyed a tea and snack.

We talked for over an hour. She was just charming and so interesting. She had grown up in the area on a farm…she shared a time that was all but foreign to me. Recently, she had returned “home” after living in Palm Springs, CA for over 35 years. She now, wanted to be near her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some how I knew what she meant…wanting to be close to family.

What a great day it was…all unplanned and extemporaneous!

I was not compensated in anyway for this review…all opinions are my own.

Did you ever wish for a special dress for a special little one in your life….but you just did not want to make an extravagant purchase that might only be worn once or twice?

Well, now there is Borrow Baby Couture, where you can choose exactly what you want for that occasion where a beautiful dress is just the thing.

There are many designers from which to choose and Borrow Baby Couture has just added more to their inventory.

With the holiday season coming up, this could be just what you might consider rather than purchasing a dress that gets worn only once.

You can shop at home, and your dress will be delivered in a beautiful box like the one pictured below. You can even choose from new or slightly worn to save some money. Either way, I think you will be very happy when your couture dress arrives…ready to wear.

Fendi Little Girl Couture

Here is the turquoise Fendi dress that I picked out for an occasion with our little one. She felt special and I was kvelling.

Fendi Turquoise Blue Dress

It was perfect in size and color. For a warm summer day, I could not have asked for a finer lightweight cotton…it actually reminded me of imported fabrics that I used to buy many years ago in New York when I enjoyed sewing.

It looked simple and elegant for a day in the city.

I would encourage moms to check out Borrow Baby Couture for that occasion that you need a beautiful dress to make your little girl feel special.

Grandparents do something different … gift this to your grandchild … it is unique…

Traveling….Mom 2.0 Summit…

Mom 2.0 Summit

I am going to the MOM 2.0 Summit this coming weekend and yesterday I went shopping  to get my fashions ready for Miami.

Now as you know, if you read my blog…I am a grandmother so finding fashions that do not look like me trying to be my daughters’ wannabe but still trying to be comfortable for my age and somewhat in fashion is not easy these days.

Yesterday, I went to Chicago for a meeting which unfortunately fortunately was cancelled…turns out it was the perfect day to shop. All the spring and summer fashions were tempting me and my upcoming trip to Miami was all the excuse I needed to get out my charge card and begin my own seasonal make-over.

I find that Eileen Fisher really speaks to my style…it does not speak to my daughters but so be it. I have learned to deal with their criticism and my own comfort.

Shopping

Eileen Fisher’s window displays beckoned me into their Water Tower Store.

I was greeted and helped by Kris…she put together the perfect travel wear for Miami…comfortable…mix and match…fun casual pieces for daytime meetings with of course a little glitz for the evening at the Versace Mansion.

Eileen Fisher has managed to make clothes that are comfortable, stylish and made of natural fabrics. She has the perfect shoes and accessories to give any outfit that extra pizzazz.

Her stores have great dressing areas with plenty of room to indulge in trying on everything that appeals to you. The staff lets you have enough privacy to make selections on your own without any pressure, just gentle guidance if you request it…I love their attention… yet they do not overwhelm you with too many choices.

I had a wonderful day…and am ready for MOM 2.0.

Bring it on.

I was not compensated for this post…all opinions are my own.

Swimsuit Competition…

“They might not even be in training bras yet, but for girls who shop at Abercrombie & Fitch, it’s never too early for a padded swimsuit.”

via Padded swimsuits for all? Abercrombie and Fitch marketing padded tops to young girls.

Abercrombie and Fitch has sunk to a new low with their marketing of padded swimsuit tops to young girls.

Abercrombie is sexualizing young girls with its new line of bathing suit tops, push ups…push up what at such a young age??

The news media is all over this one…some parents are not particularly concerned…their response simply is to just not buy this particular item.

The professionals that treat adults and children are not so quick to dismiss the discussion…they are concerned about the message young girls are getting about their bodies.

They are concerned that girls are becoming too concerned about their “packaging” rather than feeling good about themselves because of their accomplishments.

Okay…what can we do?

  • we can blog, Twitter and Facebook about Abercrombie’s marketing and advertising policies.
  • we can refuse to buy other items that Abercrombie sells
  • we can keep the discussion going and let Abercrombie know what we as parents will and will not tolerate when it comes to our pocketbooks as this is Abercrombie’s bottom line…PROFIT.
